It is, especially for a climate scientist, I'd imagine. I'd love to hear more about how your work and outdoorism mesh.

Thanks Nicole, glad to hear it. I strongly believe the outdoors is a source of balance, and the more stressed I get, the more I need it. And fortunately, no collection agency can take it away :)

I am finding that as things get tight with the economy, I am turning more often to the outdoors. I have recently rediscovered the state parks of Ohio as a great and inexpensive way to spend a day relaxing and reconnecting with myself. The beauty of nature itself has been keeping me sane in these trying times.

Dylan: Been checking out your site; you might be surprised to hear from me. Remember Jackson Hole two winters ago. Let's think about a replay this coming winter. Understand you'll be continuing your C. divide hike this summer. I will be in J>H>,my two sons and I will climb the Grand. I led the regular Exxum route a few years ago, but may have to have a guide this time, as age is getting to me. Tell Ann hello,

Cheers Cookie, and thanks again for being so generous with the results of your efforts!

One of the arguments against gadgets that hit home for me came from the minimalist As the Crow Flies blog. I still appreciate that perspective, but the allure of creation has overpowered it. At best outdoor home media can be art that promotes outdoor values, which I'm always for.

Carrying gadgets is always something I appreciate in retrospect... There was plenty of times on the CDT when all I wanted to do was post my video camera back home - tired of carrying it, tired of feeling I had to keep stopping to film stuff. But obviously now it's all shot and editted, I'm so glad I took it to capture the whole experience.

There's for the post :)

That sounds right! Tom was troubled by arthritis in his knees on our hike. I'm nearly 30 years his junior, and he still kept up a pretty good pace. The interview was actually conducted over two hikes. Only the second was a full day. Even though a long stint was spent with some slow-hiking backpackers, we still covered a good 22 miles.

Thanks for the tip on the video, I'll check it.
