Thanks Little Po. I know how hard it can be to organize and write your thoughts when living them is so time consuming and difficult. You've done this more than once on your blog. This is one place where such thoughts will always be welcomed and valued!

Nice thoughts! I can't agree with you more.
I've been always wanting to write a few articles sharing my thoughts on similar ideas too, such as "When East Meets West" and "the interface between civilization and wilderness" etc.

I can totally relate to this article. I am also trying to find a good balance between getting outside and affording a living, and I can't agree with you more on "be persistent."

Your dad, also an outdoor enthusiast, also loved Dinger. Maybe you could share at least part of his eulogy to Dinger, one of the most moving I've ever read. I am hoping somebody would think as much of me when I kick off!

I've been trail-building during the summer for three years now, and it has definitely helped me stay in touch with the outdoors when all through the school year I end up on a weekend warrior existence. The first year I was with the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, which does all kinds of conservation work in Vermont, and the past two I've been with ATIS. There's so many organizations out there, which lets you choose quite a bit about your existence on a trail crew. One of the main problems of making it a lifestyle is how seasonal it is, but every once in a while you find a few who manage. The ones I know couple the outdoor work with something related during the winter - one is an author, the other runs non-profits dedicated to trail improvement. It's something that I hope to do one day, to be outdoors and help get other people out as well.
